Baby Initials Checker

Enter the first, middle and last name to check the initials and how the full name sounds.

What the checker looks for

Initials end up on towels, luggage tags, email addresses and school forms. This checker reads the initials in the usual order and in monogram order, and flags any that spell an unfortunate word or a well-known abbreviation. It also checks the full name for repeated first letters, rhymes between the names and vowel clashes where one name runs into the next.

None of these is a rule. Plenty of people love alliteration, and a flag is only a prompt to say the name out loud and decide for yourself.

Monograms explained

A traditional three-letter monogram puts the last-name initial in the middle, larger than the others: first, last, middle. So a child named Ava Grace Taylor has the plain initials AGT but the monogram ATG. The checker shows both, because a word can hide in either one.

If you plan a hyphenated or double surname, enter it in the last name box. The checker uses the first letter of each part.

Frequently asked questions

Which initials should I avoid?

Most parents avoid initials that spell a word with a negative or rude meaning, and common abbreviations with awkward associations. The checker flags the usual suspects.

Does it check the monogram too?

Yes. It shows both the plain initials and the traditional monogram order, with the last name in the middle.

Is my name data stored?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
