Most Popular Baby Names of 1979

In 1979, the most popular baby names in the United States were Jennifer for girls and Michael for boys. Jennifer was given to 56,712 girls and Michael to 67,713 boys, according to Social Security card applications.

Across all names, the Social Security Administration recorded 3,326,804 births for names given to at least five babies that year, up from 3,173,696 in 1978.
